A Case For The Pillowcase Dress
Why we all need a pillowcase dress, a podcast episode you NEED to listen, and a song to groove to.
There are days that I feel like hiding underneath a rock. Days where I will only leave my house if I'm wearing a pillowcase dress.
About a month ago, I read one of Lauren Pantin's newsletter posts titled Looking Like a Hot B*tch: A Shopping List, where she listed a few items necessary for her ideal hot girl summer. The list is on point: silly sunglasses, slouchy pants, cutie pie tops, sexy one-pieces, and a pillowcase dress. Honestly, I was surprised to see the pillowcase dress on her list. Usually, hot girl summer lists are full of sexy clothes that reveal a lot of skin. Ever since I read her list, I can't stop thinking about pillowcase dresses.
I love pillowcase dresses. I often wear a pillowcase dress, especially during that time of the month when I don't want anything I wear to touch me. I usually wear them when I want to feel comfortable yet cute. Or when I feel lazy and don't have much time to think about what to wear. My preferred length is somewhere between a midi and a maxi. I don't feel confident enough to exhibit my legs with a mini. I know we live in the age of body positivity and embracing one's flaws, but I will not go there still.
Pillowcase dresses originally were dresses sewn from pillowcases (hence the name). To make one, you would cut off the two top corners of the pillowcase, create a casing at the neckline for a ribbon, and that's it.
For the purpose of this newsletter, we will refer to the pillowcase dress as something loose that doesn't touch your body. Easy breezy, and highly comfortable to wear. It can be maxi, midi, or mini. The only prerequisite is that it has to be loose.
There are so many beautiful pillowcase dresses in the market, but my favorite go-to brand is COS. No one makes a pillowcase dress as versatile as COS. They are comfortable, modern, colorful, of good quality, and affordable. One can actually buy them. Below are a few of my favorite ones:
Jaquemus Bob Gadjo denim bucket hat $135.
COS voluminous textured midi dress $190.
Timeless Pearly mismatched smile and star hoop earrings $221.
The Row mesh slingback sandals $776.
Loewe inflated cat-eye acetate sunglasses $360.
Marni X No Vacancy Inn canvas tote bag $535.
The Row Canal grained-leather loafers $874.
Why am I writing about pillowcase dresses? Of all things. Because, as women, the way we look is directly co-related to the way that we feel. That’s an undeniable truth. When we look good, we feel good, and when we don’t feel good, we need to find something to wear that will help us feel good. If that makes any sense. We all need that dress that will give us confidence when we can't find confidence anywhere else. There are days that I feel like hiding underneath a rock. Days where I will only leave my house if I'm wearing a pillowcase dress. Your confidence dress might be something different. For me, it’s the pillowcase dress.
What I listened to this week…
If you’re a woman, you need to listen to this episode of the Mel Robbins Podcast. I learned so much from it; you need to learn from it too.
A song to groove to…
I’ve been listening to this song on repeat during my morning walks. Everybody wants to be footloose and fancy-free Bourgie, Bourgie!
Before I say goodbye to you guys, I think it’s a good idea to clarify that I’m not making any money by sharing links to all these brands. I’m not part of any affiliate program. Everything I share, I truly love. If or when I decide to join an affiliate program, I will let you know, so we can keep things very transparent.
That’s it for today, guys. I hope you enjoyed the newsletter. Let me know in the comments if there’s something specific that you would like me to write about.
Enjoy your Sunday! Until next.
I love you.
xoxo
