Life Update
I want to start by apologizing for being absent for two consecutive Sundays. I don't have to; I want to. The truth is that I'm going through some significant life transitions that have proven to be more challenging than I thought they would be. These transitions have required more time, attention, and energy (mental, physical, emotional) than expected, resulting in very little time, if any, to sit down and plan this newsletter.
I also want to let you know that if you are going through significant life changes that have required you to make sacrifices, know that you are not alone. I see you. You have been equipped and empowered for this time, and you can do it. It's okay to let go of certain things to entirely give yourself to whatever you are going through. Stop resisting it. Stop feeling like a failure. There's a time for everything under the sun. It's not forever; It's only temporary. Relinquish control. Whatever you have given up to do what you must, God will reward you with double. That is if you believe it.
Thank you for sticking around. I love you. On to today’s topic…
Fashion month is sort of over, and I'm glad. I say sort of because Pheobe Philo hasn't released her collection, and it is not over until Phoebe says it's over. I'm happy it's over because I can't take any more fashion stimulation. It's simply too much. I feel overwhelmed. It's all beautiful yet overwhelming. As human beings, we have no capacity to take this much information in.
As overwhelming as it was, I still have my favorites and want to share them with you. It's never easy to choose. After much consideration and going through images repeatedly, behold my selection.
English romance and chintz at Erdem
The Erdem Spring Summer 2024 collection is what dreams are made of, at least for me—the chintzy fusion of Barbour waxed jacket and voluminous opera coat, floppy bow kitten-heels, chicken earrings, jeweled lingerie dresses, full skirts, labels stitched on the sides of sleeves and in the front of handbags, studded leather jackets, and draped evening gowns, are just a few things that I found to be inspiring and desirable. Plus, the models, venue, music, hair, makeup, all of it makes Erdem one of my top favorite shows of all.
If I could buy one item from the Erdem SS24 collection, I would buy the patchwork linen midi skirt, and I would wear it something like this:
Also, with a white cotton-poplin shirt, or with a super soft crewneck cashmere sweater.
Fierce imagination at Maison Margiela
"This is what fashion is all about," attendees to the show concluded after being witnesses of the creative extraordinaire of John Galiano's Spring Summer 2024 collection for Maison Margiela. It's a perfect mix of imagination and wearable gems. No one can deny that Galiano is still a genius who continues to mesmerize his audiences with his unparalleled couture proposals. While it may look costumey, it's more wearable than the eye meets. For me, it's the dramatic volumes, playfulness of the styling, excentric 1950s hats, deconstructed bodices, slingback painted oxfords and tote bags wrapped in tulle, and visible linings and stitching turned inside out. Simply magnificent!
If I could buy one item from the Maison Margiela SS24 collection it would be the black skirt. This black skirt:
I guess I’m in the mood for skirts. I would also buy the sling back oxfords and I would wear them with my skirt, and with a polo top like this one. Or with a simple jersey t-shirt.
Dressed up yet pared back at Carven
This season, Louise Trotter, formerly at Lacoste and Joseph, made her runway debut for Carven during Paris Fashion Week. What I love the most about this collection is that it gives me that sense of ease with high sophistication. You see the clothes and know they will make you feel confident like you dominate the room. They're also what I call "smart clothes." Clothes that will make you look like you know stuff. Like, she seems like she knows things. I don't know about you, but I want to look smart in my clothes. Tibi is another brand that gives me the same vibe. The she's chill, she's modern, she's an intelligent woman vibe. I want that vibe. I've never desired Carven until now.
I can’t choose just one item from this collection because I desire many. I not only desire items, I desire complete looks.
Other looks that caught my undivided attention include…
JW Anderson
Miu Miu
Loewe
Marni
It is obvious from my selection that chill vibes is in the air.
Needless to say, there were more looks I loved, Like this Jil Sander ensemble, but I’m gonna stop.
That’s it for today guys. No more runway shows for a while. I’m officially overdosed with fashion information. I just moved into my new home two weeks ago. I still don’t have a fully operating kitchen, but if by next Sunday I do, I might share something of the culinary nature. Perhaps give fashion a pause. I don’t know. I can’t promise anything. Don’t go anywhere. Stick around. Love you. Stay cool.
xoxo
