Hello, beautiful people!
Last week, I wrote about basics and essentials. To give you a quick recap, basics are the simple pieces, the fundamentals of our wardrobe. Essentials are the absolutely necessary items that we need to express personal style. Today, we will learn about statement pieces and how to mix them with basics and fundamentals to create extraordinary outfits. Outfits that make heads turn.
We could say that statement pieces are essential; they are absolutely necessary to express your personal style. However, not all essentials are statement pieces. Statement pieces are things we wear that attract attention and convey something about our personality. The key here is that it must be an attention grabber. It doesn't mean it has to be fancy, but it does need to catch some eyeballs. A white T-shirt is basic, but a T-shirt with a bold graphic can be a statement piece.
Jenna Lyons, the woman who dressed America, is the queen of mixing basics and essentials with statement pieces. Honestly, I don't think anyone does it better than her. She's always been an inspiration to me and to so many other women. I come from the school of Jenna. I am part of that generation who admired her style on Pinterest, pre-Instagram era. Jenna's style was hot ten years ago and continues to be hot. That's it. End of story.
Lucy Chadwick is another street-style star that reminds me of this kind of dressing. A little more laid back than Jenna. Maybe because Jenna wears high heels a lot. I've always liked Lucy's style, making it look incredibly effortless and chic. She seems like she doesn't try too hard, yet you know she knows her stuff when you see her.
Chloe King is also well known for her bold personal style. Chloe is one of my favorites. She loves clothes and she shows it. Imitating Chloe's style can be more challenging because she dresses more statementfully, meaning layering several statement pieces together to create an incredible outfit.
The key to doing it right is having the ideal pieces as part of your wardrobe, Which takes time to build. You must also know how to style and personalize them. This is why I'm sharing a few exciting ways to mix basics and essentials with statement pieces to create attention-grabbing outfits that people will love and compliment you on. No rules here, simple ideas to guide you.
Option 1: statement maxi skirt and sweatshirt.
Option 2: statement peplum top with denim midi skirt.
Option 3: statement sequined skirt with t-shirt.
Option 4: statement top and cargo pants.
Option 5: statement pants with button down shirt.
Option 6: statement coat with jeans and T-shirt.
Option 7: Statement jacket with chinos.
You may notice I used the same accessories. This is because that's how it's supposed to be. You're supposed to be able to wear the same shoes with different outfits, and your bag should be versatile enough. Yes, you could have 100+ pairs of shoes and 300+ handbags, but that's only the case sometimes. I can mix and match these pieces to create more outfits. The possibilities are great. You can also tone down your looks. These are definite attention grabbers for people who like to have fun with their clothes and are not afraid to show it. Dressing up should be fun!
Always remember to stay true to yourself. Try new things, and don't be afraid to make mistakes or even look ridiculous, as long as you are being yourself.
Happy Sunday! I love you. Stay cool. Until next.
xoxo
