Ten really cool things
Ten things that caught my attention this week, from expensive pantry products, educating art videos, to handcrafted wool rugs designed in Mexico.
To your disappointment, today's newsletter post is not dedicated to the latest Barbie phenomenon. As much as I loved playing with Barbies during childhood, I will not write about how to wear Barbie pink. I will, however, write about ten really cool things that caught my attention this week. Utterly unrelated to anything that is Barbie. I hope you find them interesting too. Finding cool things to share with you is part of my creative journey.
1. The Flamingo Estate Inconvenience Store
Flamingo Estate, which already has the best branding, recently partnered with Mytheresa to set up a summer Pop-Up in the Hamptons called "The Inconvenience Store." A foodie’s paradise. The packaging of their products is so beautiful that I want to buy them so that they will look decorative in my kitchen. Fortunately, we don’t have to travel to the Hamptons to acquire such delicacies. Is anyone in the mood for an Italian apperitivo set?
2. Dussen Dussen Stripped Dog Bed
Let's be honest. Most dog beds are ugly. Archie's bed is visually unpleasant, but he loves it because it's memory foam. I'm always looking for more design-oriented dog beds to place in different areas of the house. Because, you know, dogs need beds in other areas of the house. More than one bed is required. If I put a dog bed in my living room, I want it to look good.
3. The Silk Ponza and Rein by Kule
Once again, I've never met a stripe I didn't like, and no one makes a stripe like Kule. This set is the perfect thing to wear on a summer vacation, inside the house just for shits and giggles, or if you live in a warm city like me, then it's the perfect thing to wear to go to the supermarket to buy toilet paper.
4. The Camper Lab Traktori
All I will say is that I like these shoes. I know that Camper Lab makes "peculiar" looking shoes, but a couple of years ago, I bought a pair of velcro sandals that everyone compliments me on when I wear them. Are my sandals weird? Yes. Do people like them? Surprisingly yes. So there you go. The Traktori could be an excellent alternative to the infamous Crocs.
5. Issey Miyake
The Issey Miyake brands are brilliant. I was recently reminded about Issey Miyake, and now I can't stop thinking about it. It's haunting me. It's saying to me: Maria, you need me. And I do! It’s just too beautiful.
6. The IKEA Ärtbuske
About two months ago, I first saw this cactus vase/watering can during a visit to IKEA in Clearwater, FL. I was going to buy it, but the one I grabbed didn't have a price tag, and I wasn't planning on marathoning all through IKEA in search of another one. So I left it behind and forgot about it until Christene Barberich reminded me of it in her latest newsletter post. Now, I feel like I can't live without it. Yes, I have issues.
7. Walsh Velvet Solid Back Chair in Olive Green Velvet
My husband and I just recently moved to Miami. We haven’t moved into our home because it’s being fixed. While we wait, I fantasize about things I would love for our home. I love these chairs for our dining room. I'm very much into their vintage vibe, and I know I won't get sick of them in just a few months. If I decide to get them, I'll show you how they look. Just be patient because I don't know when we’ll move or buy a dining table, lol! Baby steps.
8. Mark's Kitchen Meditteranean Lamb Meatballs & Chard
This year I started following Dr. Mark Hyman because I want to learn more about adopting an anti-inflammatory diet. If you go to his website, you'll find delicious and healthy recipes. I'll be honest; I've yet to try them. I will once I'm back in my kitchen with my things. Right now, I stick to effortless cooking that doesn't require complex utensils. This recipe is at the top of my to-cook list. Anything with lamb meat, I’m in.
9. The Museum of Modern Art Youtube Channel
I've mentioned before that I'm doing an online certificate in graphic design with RISD. My Color Theory teacher shared a video from MoMa's In The Studio series this week. It was about how to make a collage. I watched that video and like twenty more videos. I'm fascinated by them. The Behind The Scenes series is extraordinary, allowing the audience a small taste of museum life. If you love art, I recommend their videos.
10. Pez Palma by Mestiz
I saved the best for last. Mestiz is a design studio based in San Miguel de Allende, founded by designer Daniel Valero. The studio’s website is under construction, but you can delight yourself by following their Instagram account, which is filled with the most amazing colorful, vibrant, handcrafted unique products. They are truly extraordinary.
I know today’s newsletter is a little simple, but sometimes I find things on the Internet that I feel compelled to share. You may already be familiar with these brands, people, and products, or maybe this is the first time you learn from them. I know I feel inspired when I see something that I love. Not everything beautiful I see, I can buy, but it’s still a delight to my creative soul.
Always remember to share what inspires you; this is an act of kindness.
I love you guys! Until next.
xoxo
